The Destination

Chicago - As we travel backwards on Route 66, opposite of what most people seem to do, we will end up in the Windy City where I spent a good eighteen years of my life before moving to Los Angeles. I miss the food and the splendid lake front. It's got to be one of best looking downtowns of any U.S. major city.

This sign marks the start of Route 66 at Michigan Ave. and Adams St. Although not the real start, as it has been subsenquently moved a few times as the local streets changed to one way streets. But our end to our upcoming journey.

Other Routers

While we will be bringing an audio/video recording device or two, the primary focus I think is words, art and pictures. Jay Crim and Shekar Davarya spent the summer of 2002 driving across the country on Route 66, collecting interviews with the people who live, work and travel on the old road.

Side Trips

At the western end of the Route, or Old Sixty-Six, if you travel that far, or if you are getting ready to go, it's worth poking around a little at the local spots, and Rob Morris' Malibu Beach Cafe is one of them. It used to be called that anyway. It's a fine place to put your feet in the sand and have some nice food, maybe a Mojito, and watch the kids play in the surf.

Paradise Cove, Malibu CA

This isn't where we are starting from on our first trip, on Route 66, but it has always been a nice spot to start any day out here in southern California. Great breakfasts at Bob Morris' Malibu Beach Cafe.
